Sportsman spirit is what goes beyond any competition being won. This is truly shown by a Spanish athlete where he stopped just befor the finish line to let his competitor win. This gesture by him was rather unexpected however upon knowing the meaning, it shows that he was true sportsman with a positive sportsman spirit.
Triathlete Diego Méntriga stopped just before the finish line when he noticed that his competitor took a wrong turn in the final stretch of Santander Triathlon in Barcelona, Spain. When British athlete James Teagle mistook the direction in the last stretch of the race, Méntriga got the chance to overtake him.
While running Méntriga looked back and upon realising that his opponent made a mistake, he stopped before the finish line to let him win because according to him he was the one who deserved it as during the whole race Teagle was in front of him.
Later both of them shaked hands and Teagle was amazed to see Méntriga’s true integrity for sports and his gesture.
Netizens from all over the world have praised him for his gesture and later it was reported by the Spanish newspaper El Mundo that Méntrida was awarded honorary third place by the triathlon organisers and the same €300 (Rs 26,000) prize money as Teagle.
