CAA WILL BE IMPLEMENTED VERY SOON; GOT DELAYED DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC: BJP CHIEF NADDA

BJP president JP Nadda has said the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA) will be implemented ‘very soon’.
Nadda said at a rally in West Bengal’s Siliguri that “CAA will be implemented very soon. It got delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic.” The BJP president further said that the party is committed to implementing CAA and that “all will get its benefit.”
The home ministry had earlier in August told a parliamentary standing committee that it will need three more months to frame Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) rules.
Despite the issue of notification after its passage by the parliament, CAA’s implementation has been held back by the absence of rules.
The law, passed by Parliament last year amid countrywide protests against it, seeks to confer citizenship, grants citizenship to Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhist, Jains and Parsis, but not Muslims – from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh who had arrived in India before December 31, 2014. The legislation applies to those who were “forced or compelled to seek shelter in India due to persecution on the ground of religion”.
