Active coronavirus cases in India continued to fall, in a positive turn for the country with the second most cases in the world, falling below the 9 lakh-mark for the first time in a month.
On Friday, India’s active Covid-19 caseload fell to 893,592 despite a spike of 70,496 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, as per the health ministry’s dashboard. On September 9, there were 897,394 active cases of the virus in the country.
On October 8, meanwhile, India had 902,425 active cases.
This means active cases now stand for merely 13% of India’s Covid-19 cases pie. Recoveries make up for 86% and fatality rate stands at 1.5%.
The central government is pushing its fifth phase of ‘Unlock India’ which includes partial reopening of schools and multiples starting Oct. 15. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced the first phase of reopening the economy in May. The country, already having contracted nearly 24% in the April-June quarter, is headed for a rare annual contraction too.
