In a battle between the top two teams on the points table in IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians defeated the Delhi Capitals to rise above them in the tally. Both the teams have now won five out of their seven matches and are tied at 10 points each, but due to a superior net run rate, MI are at the No.1 spot.
Although the defeat was only Delhi Capital’s second in IPL 2020 – the least so far in the tournament for any team along with Mumbai Indians – they however on Sunday scripted an unwanted record.
Sunday’s loss was Delhi Capitals’ 100th defeat in the Indian Premier League. They became the second team to reach the unwanted record after Kings XI Punjab reached the ignominious record a day earlier when they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by 2 runs on Saturday.
The statistic highlights the poor record of the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. The team has never won a title, or rather, not even played in an IPL final. Their best performance in the 12-year history of the tournament is the 3rd place finish thrice in 2009, 2012 and 2019.
However, with the way the team has played in IPL 2020 so far, they do look like one of the favourites to lift their maiden title this year.
