US President Donald Trump in his second presidential election debate against Joe Biden said that the air in China, Russia and India is “Filthy” as he shifts the blame for climate change.
The Republican president went on to add in his debate, ” I walked out of the Paris Accord as we had to take out trillions of dollars and were treated very unfairly”. He also said on the matter that ” I will not sacrifice millions of jobs… thousands of companies because of the Paris Accord. It is very unfair”.
Back at home in India, Congress leader, Kapil Sibal used the US President’s remarks to target PM Narendra Modi, who has often referred to Trump as “friend”. Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi said that it was a very unfortunate comment Mr. Trump made on India. Political analyst Tehseen Poonawalla urged PM Modi to give a strong response to Trump’s comments on India.
India is the fourth highest emitter of carbon dioxide in the world, according to the projection by the Global Carbon Project published in December 2018. The United States of America stands among the top 4 emitters of carbon dioxide in 2017 as per this report. The US covered 15% of global emissions and India 7%.
