French Champions Stumble Twice, Sight Of A Hangover Season?

The Le Classique game between PSG and Marseille on matchday 2 of the Ligue 1 season, descended into an ugly brawling contest as five players were sent off in one of the most ill-tempered matches in recent memory. The Le Classique, thanks to a Florian Thauvin goal was won by Marseille. But, the uncomfortable exchanges between the players began from the very beginning of the game and by the 80th minute mark, 12 players were booked – exploding the fixture into its closing minutes. Punches and kicks were being exchanged between the two sides.

Leandro Paredes was the first player to be sent off for flying through two Marseille players and picking up his second yellow card, with Layvin Kurzawa, Dario Benedetto and Jordan Amavi following suit. And Neymar, who had been in an irritated mood for much of the match, was the fifth player sent off, having punched Marseille defender Alvaro Gonzalez in the back of the head. The match had its fair share of controversies and the players dismissed are expected to be handed a ban of more than one game.
