Indradhanush Gas Grid Ltd (IGGL), a joint venture of IOCl, ONGC, GAIL, NRL, and OIL, informed on September 26, that the company has set forward to implement the proposed North East Gas Grid Project, which would take into concern all the Northeast state capitals and Sikkim, had placed its first major order for the procurement of 550kms of Line Pipes worth Rs 908 crores on 25 September.
The PMC for this mega project is given to MECON Limited,Delhi. The construction is targetted to commence from December 2020 and is likely to be completed by March 2024.
This Grid is to be connected to India’s main grid and would bring natural gas from Barauni to Assam.This project would help in the transportation of piped natural gas to households and liquefied natural gas for vehicles.
The Indradhanush Gas Grid Ltd (IGGL) was incorporated by PM Narendra Modi in August 2018. However, the foundation stone for this project was laid in February 2019 by PM Modi during his visit to Guwahati. The North East Gas Grid Project was approved on 8 January 2020 by the CCEA chaired by PM Modi with a Viability Gap funding of Rs 5,559 crores, which consists of 60% of the total project cost.
