The country’s first redeveloped station set to be inaugurated this week.
Thi station will provide airport like facilities and experience to passengers such as luxury hotel, theme-based lighting, an iterfaith prayer hall and a seperate baby feeding room.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the station on July 16.
The station has a special ticket booking counter, ramps, lifts, parking space and a dedicated art gallery with live LED wall display lounge.
The redevelopment of the station was planned in 2016 as the Indian Railways is set on transforming stations into world-class facilities and buisness hubs called “Railpolis” in order to attract investment. The interfaith prayer hall is coulmn free and sleek in its framing.
The work on the station started in 2017 with a 74:26 equity contribution from the Gujarat Government and the IRSDC.
There is a concourse for departing passengers and two subways for arriving passengers. The station can handle 1,500 passengers in peak hours and when the concourse comes into use, this number will go upto 2,200. There are retail, food and other outlets also planned.
Thai station has India’s first FASTag based parking.
