Chennai Super Kings have removed batsman Suresh Raina’s name from the team’s official website. The former India batsman was all geared up for the tournament and had also joined team’s one week camp in Chennai. He flew to UAE with other members of the team but 13 COVID-19 positive cases in the CSK camp saw him return to India.
The CSK vice-captain had kept the doors ajar for a comeback and had said that might return should the situation improve. But it is now confirmed that he won’t return as CSK have removed his name from their website.
Apart from Raina, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh also didn’t feature in CSK’s official website. However, Harbhajan was never in line to rejoin the squad.
“We cannot look at (Suresh) Raina because he made himself unavailable, and we respect his decision and his space. We are not thinking about it,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan had told ANI last week.
“I can assure fans that we will bounce back strongly. It’s just a game and you have your good and bad days. But the players know what they need to do and the smiles will be back.”
CSK are also missing the services of Ambati Rayudu, who hasn’t played since CSK’s opener, which remains to be their only win of the campaign so far.
Murali Vijay, Ruturaj Gaikwad and all-rounder Kedar Jadhav all have failed to grab the opportunities in Rayudu’s absence. As a result, CSK have experienced a difficult start to their season.
With just one win from three matches, the Yellow Army sits at the sixth spot in the points table. They next face Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday.
