In what was the first of its kind in Jharkhand, State Education Minister Jagarnath Mahto gifted Alto cars to the state toppers of Class 10 and 12. He had made the promise on the day the results were announced.
Minister Mahto also vowed to adopt toppers from the next year so they could complete their studies with no setbacks.
“Today, I fulfilled the commitment made earlier and also promised to adopt the state toppers from next year so that they do not have to face any hurdle in completing their studies and excel in their lives,” quoting the Minister reported the New Indian Express.
“Besides being a minister, I am also a student. Even I can win the prize next year. I had promised to give Alto cars on the result day so today I am gifting the cars,” the Minister added in a lighter vein.
The Minister has now taken admission in class 12. He went on to say that he had been gifting laptops to the toppers of his constituency for 15 years.
“It is really a proud moment for us that such a grand programme has been organized for us which will prove to be an encouraging factor, not only for us but for the coming generations,” said class 12th topper Amit Kumar.
Meanwhile, the Jharkhand cabinet has passed a proposal to award prizes of Rs 1 lakh each to Class 10 and 12 toppers of JAC, CBSE and CISCE boards as an incentive for studious kids to do better at the boards.
