Through a video conferencing on 11 October, Sunday, PM Narendra Modi launched the physical distribution of property cards under the SWAMITVA (ownership) scheme of the government. He even ascertained that this scheme would be a ‘historic move’ set to transform rural India.
Through the virtual meet, Modi interacted with many beneficiaries of the scheme. These beneficiaries are from 763 villages across six states, including 346 from Uttar Pradesh, 221 from Haryana, 100 from Maharashtra, 44 from Madhya Pradesh, 50 from Uttarakhand and two from Karnataka.
The Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (SVAMITVA) scheme initiated by the Central Government is to provide rural household owners to properly document their property so as to be able to use them in future economic purposes. It was launched by PM Modi on National Panchayati Raj Day in April,2020.
The PMO has said that this launch would help around 1 lakh property holders to download their property cards through an SMS link sent to their registered phone numbers, which would be followed by the physical distribution of the cards by the respective state governments.
