A teenage girl from Rajasthan urged the Supreme Court on Thursday to cancel the bail of her father, who is accused of raping her for over six years, and put him back in jail. The SC sought response of the 38-year-old father, Prince Charles, and the Rajasthan government on the girl’s plea.
On April 20, the Class X student lodged a complaint with Hiranmagri police station accusing her father of sexually assaulting her since she was in class IV, saying it took a long time to understand what the father was doing to her. The last assault allegedly happened on March 18 after she came back from Class X science examination and when her mother was not home.
The girl’s advocate Ronak Karanpuria told a bench of Justices Sanjay K Kaul and Jrishikesh Roy that despite the accused being booked under grave charges of Section 376 IPC (rape) and various sections of Pocso Act and police filing a chargesheet against him on June 10, the Rajasthan HC had released him on bail.
The petitioner said her father’s release could lead to tampering of evidence and attempt to coerce her not to depose against him.
