THREE FARM BILLS PASSED BY PARLIAMENT RECEIVES ASSENT FROM PRESIDENT KOVIND

Amidst rising protests, the three proposed Farm Bills passed by the parliament received its assent from President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday.

Kovind’s approval comes after a day when BJP party’s oldest ally, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), quit the NDA over the farm bills.Terming the Modi government’s decision to go ahead with the farm bills as a “murderous assault on the poor peasantry”, SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “The Shiromani Akali Dal has decided to pull out of BJP-led NDA alliance because of the Centre’s stubborn refusal to give statutory legislative guarantees to protect assured marketing of farmers crops on MSP.”

The three bills are Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill 2020, were passed by the parliament this week, bringing in a wide range of protests from opposition and farmers.
