TOKYO OLYMPICS: MARY KOM, MANPREET SINGH TO BE INDIA’S FLAG-BEARER AT OPENING CEREMONY

London 2012 Olympics bronze medalist Mary Kom and men’s hockey team captain Manpreet Singh will be holding the Indian flag in the opening ceremony of Tokyo Games, the Indian Olympic Association(IOA) said in a statement on Monday. Asian games gold medal winning wrestler Bajrang Punia will be the flag bearer for the closing ceromony, the IOA said.

The IOA furtehr said that the Indian contigent will have “around 201” members which will include 126 athletes and 75 officials. “The Indian contigent comprises 56 percent men and 44 percent woman.

Earlier, the sports ministry said that it will not be sending it’s delegation to this year Tokyo Olympics. The ministry said that it has decided to depute “maximum additional support staff” to the 100 athletes who have qualified for the games.
